Greetings Playa Del Rey Elementary School Community:

Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!  I am thrilled to welcome our new and returning families back to school!   Playa is committed to the success of all of our students. We believe that a strong and active collaboration with students, parents, guardians, and community members, we can create a safe and exciting learning environment that challenges all our students.

I want to first reflect on last year and thank you for your tremendous dedication to the students at Playa Del Rey Elementary.  I'm proud of the work that my staff and I have accomplished in our first year together. Our students benefited significantly from our efforts to stretch their learning in new and more challenging ways.

I have high hopes for what our students will learn and accomplish this year, but their success depends on our partnership. As we continue to focus on CGI, Balanced Literacy, Small Group Instruction, and STEAM this year, we will also continue to focus on intentional professional development, instructional walks, the PDSA cycle, and positive behavior support and intervention.

As parents, you are equal partners in building critical skills and deepening knowledge of our students to assist in the learning process. Please consider joining our school volunteer program, parent committees and ensure that you attend monthly meetings and training with the Principal. Your child(ren) will significantly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school’s program and it's operations.

We recognize that to be successful in school, your children need support from both the home and school.  We know that a strong partnership with you will make a significant difference in your child’s education.  Thank you for giving us the amazing opportunity to educate your children.

Our school is committed to ensuring that your student is always safe.

  1. For your child's safety, they should not arrive before 7:40 a.m. There is NO supervision before 7:40 am. Students must be picked up from the designated pick-up area no later than 2:38 pm or 1:38 pm on bank-day Tuesdays if they are not participating in an after school program.
  2. Bring your child to school in a safe manner.  Drop the students off at the curb on the side of the street at designated gates.  Do not use the school parking lot as a drop-off or pick-up area.  The parking lot is for employees only.

The More than a Meal (MTAM) Campaign is LAUSD’s annual campaign to collect meal applications and household income forms for students. MTAM helps secure valuable funding for our District, our schools and our students.

All families are required to complete an application. Please complete the application at https://hif.lausd.net/

We are now accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year. Please gather your TB clearance documents to be ready for submission to your school in August and upload your proof of full COVID-19 vaccination in the LAUSD Daily Pass – https://dailypass.lausd.net. Visit https://achieve.lausd.net/volunteer for more information.

Please review our School Wide Positive Behavior Intervention & Support Plan Flip Book. This is a living document and will be updated for the 2023-2024 school year.

Also, please note that cell phones are not allowed on campus.

Beyond the Bell is an after-school program that accepts K-5 students. Program hours are from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m.  There is limited space available.

The GOT GAME Program is an all-year paid program that is also available to all students.

Students not enrolled in an after-school program must be picked up every day at dismissal (unless they have their parent's permission to walk home). Students may NOT wait in the main office – the office staff members are not certificated child care employees.

When the school year is underway you will receieve monthly newsletters and updates from the school. Please be sure to check your email, text messages, child(ren)’s backpacks, and/or our social media to stay current with upcoming events and the high-level learning taking place in our community.

While newsletters and social media are great ways to communicate, please know that I welcome any opportunity to meet with you in person. Please let me know if you have any questions and/or suggestions. As always, I am open to your feedback. Your involvement and continued dedication is critical to our success.

Stay informed and in communication with us!
